EDUCATION

The NVGP organizes and guards the quality of group therapy education. The Association takes the groupdynamic approach as basisreference with regards to the education offered.

The Association offers the following types of education:

a) Education for specialized grouptherapist based on a groupdynamic standpoint and leading to the following membership: The Grouptherapist-NVGP membership.

b) Education for groupworker based on a groupdynamic standpoint and leading to the following membership: The Groupworker-NVGP membership.


c) Education for a extraordinary membership for people from a different theoretical standpoint leading to the membership as The Extraordinary membership-NVGP

d) Education for Trainer (supervisor, teaching therapist, theoretical trainer) of the Association.

Each type of membership is acquired after a special learningprogram and by recommendation of the board to the members.

 

Special course "Working with Groups" on a group dynamic basis.
The course "Working with Groups" is an initiative by the NVGP to offer a high quality education to non-psychotherapeutically educated colleagues within the mental health sector. It is an education on HBO level, meant for psychiatric nurses, groupworkers, social workers, social/psychiatric nurses and others, employed in the mental health sector and who work with diverse groups.

 

Note:

Ad d) Education for Trainer (supervisor, etc) provided by the Association.
The NVGP guards the quality of the education by screening and re-screening (after 5 years) of trainers, testing the quality of courses and training given. The association stimulates also the sharing of experience by trainers, the research of education effects and the overall management of the formal and contents of the different education activities.

The Association knows three types of trainers:

1.supervisor
2.teaching therapist
3.theoretical trainer

In order to qualify for any of the above mentioned positions one has to apply for the teaching therapist or theoretical trainer position after practicing as a recognized supervisor for at least 3 years. The practical experience implies having performed at least two supervisions.

In order to become an trainer, meaning in first instance a supervisor, one has to meet the following requirements:

1) being a regular member of the Association for at least 5 years.
2) being experiences with several different forms of working with groups.
3) in addition, being employed as a worker in the Dutch mental health sector for at least 10 % of the workweek.
4) once qualifications a mentioned above are met, one send their application for a screening interview for recognition as a candidate-supervisor to the Board.
5) after recognition, one will participate as a candidate-supervisor in a supervisors course. When this course is successfully completed, one will be recognized as supervisor for the first 5 years.


In order to qualify, after 3 years of being a supervisor, for a teaching therapist or theoretical trainer, one send their application for a screening interview for recognition to the Board.
